Rodarte Autumn/ Winter ’14

Rodarte designers Laura and Kate Mulleavy, whose Autumn collection pays homage to ‘Star Wars’, chat with Princess

Leia – Hollywood royal Carrie Fisher. LAURA MULLEAVY: When you’re reading a script, does your mind leap to the costumes? CARRIE FISHER: I’m not a real actor in the sense of getting in and out of character, but I like to find out what I’m going to wear as I might steal it. Last time I stole something, they made me pay USD500 – for a robe. KATE MULLEAVY: Your favourite costume? CF: I only wore two outfits in the first Star Wars and three or four in the second. Then there was the bikini. I was running around for a long time with guns and dresses and no underwear. But now there’s a lot of underwear, so things have changed intergalactically. KM: How does it feel to have started a whole hologram movement? CF: There weren’t any back then. You just turned slowly around and round and round while being filmed. It was very dull. What inspired you to create Star Wars dresses anyway? LM: The collection was about growing up, and we thought we have to have in it. I’ve been a fan my entire life. CF:
