SPARKLE IN THE NIGHT
With a diamond-embellished B as its backdrop, BAZAAR’s ‘Black, White & Bright’ Fashion Party took off on a glamorous start at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur. Paparazzi flashes greeted A-listers on the red carpet, as cameras zoomed in on the hottest socialites for E! News- style Q&As. Downstairs, a pair of Minis in black and white, covered in trompe l’oeil gems, was Insta fodder – as were the three photobooths in different corners of the ballroom, courtesy of Wow. (Of note: the mirrored photobooth and Instagram prints.) Beneath Art Deco chandeliers of crystal waves, guests exchanged fashion stories over Moët & Chandon Impérial champagne and lipstick chocolates too kiss-worthy to eat. Backstage, the scene was buzzing as the hair and make-up teams of Centro, L’Oréal Professionnel, and Nars created slicked-back manes and luminous faces. Meanwhile, emcee Bernie Chan warmed up the crowd as DJ Gregoire set the tone with his brand of chic nu disco.
Then the lights dimmed, and an army of models marched in, picket signs ablaze with strong style statements – “Elegance is in the Mind”, “Dress in Black & White, Think in Colour”, and “Style is Why You Get Out of Bed” – echoing Karl Lagerfeld’s famed “protest” for Chanel Spring/Summer ’15. Backed by the band, Tuxedos, Rozz and Poova later took to the stage with hits such as Bruno Mars’s “Treasure”, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, as well as “Move Over”, an original song by Poova.
But what’s a fashion party without a runway show? Charging in were Andrews Models in exquisite gowns, fringed cocktail dresses, and sharp trouser suits from noted Malaysian designers Khoon Hooi, Alia Bastamam, Syomir Izwa, and Rizman Ruzaini alongside up-and-coming names Zakwan Anuar, Pearly Wong, Justin Chiew, Afiq M, and Fizi Woo. The evening ended on a high note: with great beats, more bubbles, and sexy dance.
