MASQUERADE
BAZAAR speaks to jewellery designer Joji Kojima about his designs for Clé de Peau Beauté’s holiday collection and
his interpretation of the Venetian Masquerade. HB: As darker undertones is your design signature, how did you make sure you injected your own style into this collection while not deviating away from Clé de Peau Beauté’s identity? JK: This project is very interesting for me as it is very different from what I have done previously. The theme was already decided by Lucia [Pieroni, creative make-up director of Clé de Peau Beauté]. Therefore, I worked very closely with her to come up with something which fits the theme but at the same time represents my aggressive designs. HB: Anything on the streets in Venice which you think represents the colours of this collection? JK: The city is filled with so many colours. I do see many reds, blacks and golds, which made me think of the amazing collection Lucia decided on. HB: The Venetian Masquerade has a really long rich history. How did you ensure that you brought in your own touch to this, and using what innovations? JK: Japan is also a country with many traditions. I am not very familiar with the traditions of Venetian Masquerade but I wanted to create a bold design. Using what I understand from masquerade balls, I wanted to ensure that my creations stand out using the colours which inspired this collection. HB: What is your signature style in jewelry design and also this collection? When designing, instead of focusing on the materials and techniques, I focus more on generating something with a beautiful shape. Clé de Peau Beauté Collection
