Aspiring designer and ex-PR girl Fiona Oon and her dapper equivalent Jacques Sun are every bit the polished couple. Here, they dish out their first impressions of each other, style mantras, and most importantly, who takes the longest time getting ready. B
How did you two first meet? Jacques: We met at a common friend’s birthday party in a bar, and at that time, I was still relatively new to Kuala Lumpur. I had just moved to Malaysia [ Jacques was born and raised in France] just four months prior to that. I was a little bit lost at that time, so it was then that I got introduced to Fiona. Fiona: Well, my part of the story was that I walked down from work to our mutual friend’s birthday party in flip-flops, sitting by the bar along with a bunch of bags because I didn’t really want to dance. But there was this random dude who just kept talking to me and I was like “Ugh, this is so annoying – just leave me alone!” I was really tired having just gotten back from Bali, so when a friend brought Jacques along, I was like, “No! Not another one!” But we got to talking, and he made fun of me and my English accent. I guess that made things memorable – making fun of my flip- flops, my accent ... J: She said she was Chinese! I was like, “I’m sorry, what?! You’re not Chinese.” F: Needless to say, he didn’t make a good impression, but he made an impression! Do you remember what you both wore that fateful night? F: I thought it was going to rain, so I decided to wear flip-flops instead of my heels in case anything bad happens. I definitely remember wearing a black skirt paired with a matching black blouse ... with flip-flops. Jacques, on the other hand, was suited up to the nines. J: It was a patterned white shirt, navy trousers with a black tie, and a tie bar. F: I thought he was very stylish. J: I just noticed her flip-flops [ Laughs].
