IN THE SCENE Tory Burch goes bright and airy this spring to balance out its signature uptown preppiness and the heat. By Amy Yasmine.
Tory Burch Spring/ Summer ’16
Having carved a fabulous reputation for city-sleek dressing, Tory Burch, inspired by her travel escapades, switched it up on the New York Fashion Week stage last September. Crafting a modern, eclectic Spring/Summer ’16 collection, Santorini blues, luminous shades of corals, sunshine yellows, and green hues flowed down the runway in preppy looks with a hint of tribal fun. It’s official: the New York-based designer is dancing to the beat of her own island drum—by way of The Hamptons. Known as the summer destination for the East Coast elite, The Hamptons’ pristine landscapes and exclusive country clubs were the definitive setting for Tory Burch’s latest collection. Consider it “luxe bohemia” made for the Upper East Side style set.
The deep azures of the Agean made splashy appearances, like on a frayed Baja-esque kimono top, as well as a playful oversized tunic with pompoms and slits up-to-there. Calming picturesque sunsets were also brought to mind with delicately embroidered dresses contrasted against citrusy oranges and blues. But for any society darling worth her salt, head-turning solutions like iridescent kaftans paired with linen mule sandals take evening cocktails at The Montauk Yacht Club from pm to am.
However, as night turns to day, there’s nothing more chic to be seen in past dawn than a periwinkled poplin
