The award-win­ning film­maker gives BAZAAR the scoop on her style crushes, fu­ture projects, and true lux­ury. What is real lux­ury to you? Hav­ing some­thing that is beau­ti­fully made. Some­thing cus­tom is al­ways lux­u­ri­ous, How does it feel to be part of an­other Louis Vuit­ton col­lab­o­ra­tion? I am so proud and so happy it stood the test of time and con­tin­ues to evolve. and that’s how this pro­ject started. What was it like work­ing with the de­sign team? My job was to ex­press what I wanted in a hand­bag, and to then look through the archives for in­spi­ra­tion. I was very lucky. What were you ex­pect­ing to achieve from this col­lab­o­ra­tion? I was hop­ing that peo­ple would like it, but I was sur­prised by its broad suc­cess. I loved see­ing my friends car­ry­ing it, but then I’d spot women on the streets car­ry­ing it, which made me proud. Who do you think has the best style—the French or the Amer­i­cans? Parisian women, for me, have al­ways been the chicest. Grow­ing up, I al­ways ad­mired my fa­ther’s French friends. I re­mem­ber the first time I met Aurore Clé­ment. She made a huge im­pres­sion on me by wear­ing just a men’s shirt and nar­row black pants. She is al­ways dis­creet and so el­e­gant. What’s your next pro­ject? I am cur­rently writ­ing a script for a new film I’m plan­ning to shoot later this year that will be out in 2017.
