DANCING IN THE LIGHT
Luminous skin, scintillating textures, and the Roaring Twenties all culminate in Clé de Peau Beauté’s new collection. Nen Lin Soo joins the beauty brand at its extravagant unveiling party in Shanghai.
The year is 1927. Shanghai is already thriving in its East-meetsWest influences, and the Art Deco era is alive and strong. The Peace Hotel on the Bund, which would soon be recognised as one of the pivotal structures from the Art Deco period, was just built a year ago; shikumen buildings that lined the alleyways of the French Concession featured its signature styles; and fashion was completely reimagined as women broke societal conventions and worked to free themselves of traditional gender roles.
IT’S PROVOCATIVE
No stranger to exceeding beauty expectations and delivering transformative formulations, Clé de Peau Beauté took this spirit to heart when designing its latest Autumn/Winter ’16 collection. Lucia Pieroni, creative make-up director of Clé de Peau Beauté, was inspired by the “tumultuous era of the Roaring Twenties”.
To cast this idea into a collection that celebrated the romantic seduction of the Art Deco period, Pieroni devised shimmering colour palettes that were bold and expressive. Rich hues interplayed with textures prominent in the distinctive works of renowned painter Tamara de Lempicka—an Art Deco icon herself. Highly regarded as an outstanding female artist of the period, de Lempicka’s tendency to express her ideas of female empowerment and individuality through her art established her as an icon of her time.
Why de Lempicka? Pieroni has always had a fascination with strong, beautiful women like the Art Deco artist, and through the season’s collection, she envisioned a femme fatale with a luminous personality, enhanced by stunning make-up and her glowing radiance. Her verve is something that Pieroni also conveys in the audacious, unique colours. “She is ambivalent by nature and unafraid to explore the unknown,” describes Pieroni.
