BREAKING THE CODE
Chanel’s latest timepiece is a lesson in deciphering the maison’s iconic codes, as Amy Yasmine discovers.
#1: IT’S IN THE BAG
Inspired by the classic 2.55 bag, the maison’s latest Code Coco timepiece pays homage to a perennial classic. First introduced by Mademoiselle Chanel in February 1955, the clasp doubles up as a dial in the most discreet manner, respecting traditions with contemporary irreverence.
#2: BETWEEN THE LINES
Consider the timepiece a modern interpretation of a secret watch. Hidden behind the Mademoiselle Lock (an element borrowed from the original 2.55 design), the timepiece’s hands discreetly tell time.
#5: QUILT TRIP
Here, another iconic code from the maison makes its mark. Crafted from steel, the 2.55’s hallmark quilts are given a futuristic twist (see also: the maison’s Autumn/ Winter ’17 collection for more pointers). Supple, sleek, but with a tough-girl attitude, Chanel’s codes are once again redefined.
#4: DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
Fortune favours the bold, and Code Coco’s blingedup variation is evident of that. With 52 brilliantcut diamonds adorning its bezel, and a single princess-cut diamond set upon its dial, no matter the style, diamonds will always be a girl’s best friend.
#3: SMALL AND MIGHTY
They say great things come in small packages, and how evidently so, with the latest Code Coco. Consider its size: At just 38.1 x 21.5 millimetres, the timepiece has the ability to resist water up to 30 metres, all the while housing a high-precision quartz movement.
