A NEW WAY TO TRAVEL

Louis Vuitton invites us to escape into the pages of Extraordinary Voyages by Francisca Mattéoli.

-

Yes, we do miss travelling to foreign lands to absorb and appreciate the many cultures of the world firsthand. But since we can’t even cross state lines just yet, let alone cross countries, Louis Vuitton may have just offered us the next best thing.

Come 20 April, the Maison will be releasing a new book, Extraordinary Voyages by Francisca Mattéoli. Author of a number of travel stories and contributor to titles the likes of Condé Nast Traveller and National Geographic, Francisca Mattéoli—a true nomad—was born to a Scottish mother in Chile, then grew up in South America, lived in Brazil before eventually settling in Paris.

Extraordinary Voyages is akin to an elaborate and beautifully laid out travel journal of the past, inviting the reader to embark on a world tour that visits 50 stops across the globe through various means of transportation, among them trains, airships, ocean liners, submarines, aeroplanes, half-tracks, motorcycles, skis and even spacecraft.

Be them for adventure or escapade, taking you from the American West to Eurasia, even on the Apollo 11 mission, these modes of transport open the mind and the eyes to the great wonder of travel, that exciting exercise in excursion that on occasion is accompanied by luggage or trunks from Louis Vuitton, the world’s premier trunk maker since 1854.

And these trunks have seen them all. Through 400 photographs and documents, Francisca Mattéoli tells the story of their adventures in this book, all richly illustrated with vintage photographs and travel posters, some of which come courtesy of Louis Vuitton’s very own valuable archives. Honestly, is there any better time than now to just let our imaginations guide us as we get lost in the pages of this carefully curated compendium of circumnavigation?

Extraordinary Voyages by Francisca Mattéoli launches online and in-stores from 20 April 2021 onwards.
