Compared to other Japanese restaurants, Sagano’s menu is relatively compact. However, it offers sufficient variety, with all the favourite bases covered.

• The much-touted house speciality lobster roll and Wagyu beef may be unavailable on a weeknight. Call ahead to check or order if they are a must.

• Don’t miss the toothsome chewy hot stone-grilled baby calamari with mayonaise and ebikko, custardy- soft chawanmushi and silken agedashi tofu that’s sheathed in a sheer skin of gossamer-light batter.
