Lighting isn’t just a practical consideration, it has become a very important decorative element that often serves as a focal point. Apart from traditional materials such as crystal and glass, more and more designers are choosing unconventional materials to add tactility to their creations. Normarchitects has chosen brass for their Socket Occasional lamp for Menu, while Zanini de Zanine created the Flora collection for Slamp with 60 aluminium petals surrounding a satin sphere illuminated form its core. Hand-blown glass spheres, metals and mirrors have been juxtaposed by Lambert & Fils for the Laurent collection while Italian Matteo Ugolini uses pure white matte ceramic for the Cubano lamp, produced by Karman.
