A LOVING FATHER
Datuk Wan Fusil Wan Mahmood joyfully recollects the magical moments of his daughter Wan Farah Diyana’s union with Amir Faris Abdul Latiff
Datuk Wan Fusil Wan Mahmood talks about his daughter Wan Farah Diyana’s wedding
For a father, a daughter will always be “the little one”, no matter the age, her level of education or her success in her career. Fathers are particularly fond of their daughters, in such a way that every time they look at them, they don’t see the grown-up women they have become, but the little toddlers they once were. However, there is one significant moment in a father’s life, which makes him realise his daughter is no more a child: the moment he walks her down the aisle.
Datuk Wan Fusil speaks as a father about his eldest daughter, Wan Farah Diyana’s recent marriage to Amir Faris. By sharing his thoughts on the wedding, he expresses how joyful it was and at the same time hard, when he realised his daughter would belong to another family from now on.
He remembers when Amir and Farah told him and his wife Datin Jude about their intentions to get married. “I must admit that at first I was quite surprised as my daughter had never hinted to us of any plans to get married anytime soon. However, my wife and I met Amir a few times during our visits to London and found him to be a smart, charming and respectful young man.”
To get the ball rolling, Datuk Wan Fusil and his wife hosted a dinner at their home celebrating the couple’s engagement. It was a very informal affair where both the families got to know each other as they excitedly made plans for the akad nikah. The event was made even more memorable with the arrival of a surprise guest—the future groom himself! “Amir had flown all the way from London just to be with us on this special night,” says Datuk Wan Fusil, beaming with happiness.
After deciding on the date and venue, the arrangements for the wedding began. By choosing the Shangri-La Hotel KL as the venue, the father of the bride jokingly shares that most of the work was done by his wife and daughters, leaving him with only two tasks. His involvement was more to selecting the menu and organising the table seating. “These were two elements that I felt were crucial to ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of our guests,” he confesses. “I must commend my wife for the decorations—it was simple but nicely and tastefully done. Between her and our wedding planner, Reka Teemor, they did a wonderful job.”
When the time came to give his daughter away in marriage, Datuk Wan Fusil was both happy and sad. “It is not easy to articulate into words the joy I felt as a father, to witness my beautiful daughter as a radiant bride and wife. However, at that moment I also realised my duties to protect and care for Farah would now have to be shared between Amir and I. Ultimately, I am thankful that Farah has found her partner, but we will definitely miss having her around as part of our daily lives.”
The wedding was absolutely memorable. During the dinner reception, Datuk Wan Fusil’s younger daughter Tasha gave a splendid and passionate speech about her sister and welcomed her brother-in-law into the family. Months after the celebration, people still thank Datuk Wan Fusil and Datin Jude for organising such a beautiful wedding. “Until today, I am still getting accolades and congratulatory notes from the guests expressing how much they enjoyed the evening.”
