This July, celebrate the eighth anniversary of the inscription of George Town and Malacca as Unesco World Heritage sites
Internationally recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) as being a critical part of the common heritage of mankind, it is clear that George Town and Malacca capture an essence of Malaysia that should be maintained and showcased to the world. These historical towns operate under a protected status so as to preserve their legacy and stories for future generations. This July 7, George Town, Penang will celebrate its special status with an exciting street festival! Organised by George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI), the festivities will focus on popular local activities and traditions. With more than 10,000 people expected to attend, Dr Ang Ming Chee, GTWHI’S general manager expressed that “Georgetown is a unique architectural, cultural and historical townscape, without parallel anywhere in East and South Asia.”
