From personalised, organic scented candles to curated gifts and interior homeware pieces, Tish founder Shermaine Wong shifts her brand’s focus to events, writes Kathlyn D’souza

The lack of curated and personalised homeware within Malaysia was a glitch that Shermaine Wong intended to solve. Armed with professional experience and a background in public relations and publishing, she pursued her true calling and dream to bring beautiful and curated decor to enchanting spaces and bespoke events. This was, of course, backed by the simplest

Describe the preliminary process of coming up with your own scented candles.

After many trials and errors, we finally found a local supplier, which uses Malaysian organic vegetable wax for a clean-burning effect, as I am allergic to paraffin. Plus, I’ve also taken the time to produce different candle scents.

Tell us about Tish Events, how did this come about?

One word to describe this—serendipity! We had a few corporate clients of notions—that a plain concept, when thoughtfully organised and personalised, can lift up your entire home and event, which is what they do at Tish Events. “From start to finish, we make sure that the people and the brands we are working with would have every fibre of their personality injected into everything we use on the event day,” explains Wong. She shares with us her thoughts on the brand, and current events at Tish. that were following us, they loved our work and then contacted us. It was all because of Instagram. That’s why I treat social media like a magazine. The images have to be vibrant and of good quality. That plus other referrals, our horizons have now broadened in what we offer as a brand.

What do you hope to achieve through the brand Tish and its respective branches, such as the events and workshops?

We’ve recently launched #Tishstylesesh, a collaborative team that hosts insightful and interesting workshops for the creative and entrepreneurial community in our Tish Lifestyle Studio, based in Bangsar South. We’re passionate about discovering and supporting emerging talent, locally and internationally, particularly those who share our approach for chic living and beautiful spaces. Workshops are run in ever-changing and intricately styled spaces that are sure to inspire and promote creativity.

Describe your creative team.

#Teamtish can be described as a bunch of misfits, dreamers, caffeine addicts, fusspots and workaholics, but one thing’s for sure—they’re amazing good designers, stylists, florists and project managers. I’m extremely blessed to be surrounded by driven, creative and passionate people, day in and out through exhausting days and sleepless nights. We’ve achieved so much in a short time frame.

What are your plans for the brand in the future?

Just keep styling! We’re looking forward to curating even better and beautiful events and also more workshops for 2017.
