Dato’ Seri Tengku Baharuddin Sultan Mahmud and Nabilah Khan celebrated their nuptials with an intimate ceremony at The St Regis Kuala Lumpur

The walls of the astor ballroom were bathed in a purple glow, the groom’s favourite colour, and a yellow carpet entrance awaited the royal couple. Their entrance was preceded by a formal march of men adorned in ceremonial military uniforms, accompanied by bagpipers performing a tune to usher in the newlyweds, as per military tradition. This was the scene that greeted Dato’ Seri Tengku Baharuddin and Nabilah Khan as they were welcomed in with a royal salute. Throughout the night, timeless love classics were played by a talented slow jazz band that complemented the jovial vibe which filled the ballroom. The couple preferred to have an intimate dinner celebration as they both wanted only the most important people in their lives to be present and as such, invited 250 guests for this significant event. Nabilah, who was radiant in a Jovian Mandagie number, explained that because they had all the necessary people there, they all could really enjoy themselves that night. Guests from Dubai, Indonesia, London and also Pakistan had flown in to witness the joyous occasion. While the wedding ceremony itself was traditionally Malay, the food, chosen by the groom, featured modern Western selections. The wedding was something special, as Dato’ Seri Tengku Baharuddin, out of his own initiative, together with some help from family and friends, was very hands-on with the planning because he wanted it to be perfect for his wife. Thanks to proper execution, the akad nikah, which took place at the couple’s home, and the dinner reception at The St Regis KL went smoothly, all on the same day. For those who weren’t present at the akad nikah, pictures of the ceremony were displayed for guests to see how the solemnisation had taken place. Another highlight at the dinner was when Dato’ Abdul Aziz, the groom’s brother in-law, took to the stage to give an earnest speech injected with humour, which naturally evoked a few rounds of laughter and applause.
