Art of the Matter
INSIDE ART BASEL IN HONG KONG
An eclectic mix of VIPS, collectors and art aficionados gathered for the Private View and Vernissage sessions of Art Basel in Hong Kong, held at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. Hong Kong Tatler partnered with the Outnet for the second year to conduct private tours of the fair before it opened to the public. Hosted in conjunction with Para Site, the tours took select groups of ladies through the extensive art fair, guided by knowledgeable local curators. At the Hong Kong Tatler booth, guests let their imaginations run wild when creating images during the magazine’s one-minute artist challenge. Armed with an assortment of crayons and with just 60 seconds on the clock, friends of Hong Kong Tatler were given the task of drawing themselves or a friend—and the results were frequently hilarious, if not always great art. Highlights of the Vernissage included a cocktail party at Galerie Gmurzynska’s booth during which guests had the opportunity to examine a collection of recent works by Colombian artist Fernando Botero, along with a carefully curated range of paintings by the French master Fernand Léger, and Spain’s Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso.
