Victor Sanz, creative director of Tumi speaks to Kathlyn D’souza about the brand, its new 19 Degree release plus his travel tips
Tumi is known as the leading international brand of premium travel, business and lifestyle accessories since 1975. Thus one can imagine that whatever comes out of the brand’s factory is going to be a sleek amalgamation of form and function. And such can be expected out of the brand’s latest release, a range of cutting-edge travel gear set on specially crafted aluminium with deliberate indentations chiselled all the way across the suitcases. The man behind Tumi’s creative direction, Victor Sanz who had originally set out to be a sculptor, discovered industrial design and was blown away by the possibilities. He thought: What better way to get his sculptures into people’s hands than through products? Through his multidisciplinary approach in creating new products for Tumi while fusing art with technology, there have been many successful launches under his leadership, such as Alpha, A2, Bravo, Arrivé, Virtue, Haydon, Los Altos, Tegra-lite, Tegra-lite Max, and the brand’s first-ever aluminium travel collection—19 Degree, which we speak to him about.
