Daddy’s Girl

-

You know what they say, always go out with a big bang and that’s what we strived to do as we packed the last issue of 2017 with visual treats and intellectual reads. First off, we tackle a subject that most of us can relate to. Fathers and daughters share a special bond. And this could not be more apparent than with our cover stars Tunku Dato’ Yaacob Khyra and his daughter Tunku Elana. During the photo shoot with them at their home, as we witnessed the closeness the two share—at one point, they started singing and dancing together when a great song came on—we could see that the daughter is a chip off the old block, self-assured, gregarious and having a great zest for life. In a rare twist, we got them to interview one another, a task they took on with vim and vigour, as candid responses spilled out and had us hooked as we listened in to their conversation. Read all about it in Like Father, Like Daughter (page 192). Also take a look at what went down at ourr 28th Anniversary Tatler Ball, which took placece on November 4 at Shangri-la Kuala Lumpur. With over 14,000 photos taken that night, it was a major feat selecting the ones that will make the final cut in our pages. We also gave our 2017 Tatler award winnersers a round of rapid-fire questions on various topics—keeping the marriage spark alive, howow to close a deal, and how to be a 21st century wife and mother. Want to find your purpose in life? It’s also discussed too. Turn to page 186 to read all about it. Our Tatler editions have invited six petrolheads from Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and China, to share about their favourite road trips ( Take the Wheel, page 204). Our very own Erwin Azizi talked about his road trip in Thailand with a convoy of supercars. And what was not mentioned was that they accidentally ended up on a ‘private’ trail commonly used by drug smugglers from Myanmar to Laos. Can you imagine going through 130km of terror, being confronted by rebels with balaclavas and AK47S every 10km or so? And there were families and kids in the convoy. Erwin said that it was ‘nerve-wrecking’. But thankfully all 25 of them made it through.
