When Hearts Collide

-

Despite their distance, the celebration of the union between Oktarianto Widjaja and Caleen Chua showcased their love in the most beautiful way possible

Nine years ago, Oktarianto Widjaja and Caleen Chua were introduced to each other by a mutual friend. Sparks flew from the encounter, fostering a friendship and eventually, a romance between them. Oktarianto proposed to his lady love in Alila Uluwatu, Bali while the couple were having a romantic sunset dinner with a view. Their engagement would set a year-long preparation for their three-part wedding celebrations in Indonesia and Malaysia. Despite living apart, the couple worked hand-in-hand as a team to achieve the wedding of their dreams. Caleen focused on the creative aspects of the event, while Oktarianto took care of the practical details. “We also owe it to our siblings and close friends who rose to the occasion as our emcee, decorator, coordinator and even first dance instructor,” says Caleen with a laugh. There was a total of three receptions that were organised in honour of the couple’s union. The first celebration was a simple, intimate and romantic ceremony in Alila Uluwatu, inspired by nature. The second one was an elegant tribute to the couple’s Chinese roots and was held at the Chuas’ restaurant, Raintree in Menara CIMB, Kuala Lumpur. Out of the three receptions, it was their fairy tale-themed reception dinner at the grand ballroom of The St Regis Kuala Lumpur that had the who’s who of society in attendance in full force. The grand finale event was inspired by the beautiful Grace Kelly, whose transition from a Hollywood star to princess fascinated the bride. “I named our theme for the reception after her—la Grace Royale,” shares Caleen.
