OUR Artprojects presents Against The Day, a group exhibition highlighting selected works by Malaysian artists whose practice offers new possibilities of drawings

-

Highlights for this month include an interesting art exhibition of unorthodox artworks by local artists

Our artprojects was founded in 2013 as an art consultancy and project platform. It now operates a gallery space located in a row of restored c. 1950s interconnected shophouses, in Kampung Attap, Kuala Lumpur. Previously housing the Selangor Zhongshan Association, it now is an exciting arts hub, ready to address the recent change in the country—by playing host to several artists whose drawings are rich in narrative and are performative, processual and sometimes monumental in scale. Although often considered as part of studies and preparatory sketches, drawing has now evolved to become more than just that in the contemporary art scene—it is applauded for its spontaneity and immediacy as well as serving as documents of underlying largescale social processes and forces that are roiling, turning and churning in the shaping of new experiences and realities. With that, the exhibition aims to offer insights to the country’s changing social landscape. Among artists participating in Against the Day are Chong Siew Ying, Gan Sze Hooi, Jalaini Abu Hassan, Kow Leong Kiang, Minstrel Kuik and Nirmala Dutt, and more.
