Fashion entrepreneur Nicole Wong shares her personal style and talks about her brand

It’s a no-brainer when it comes to the one fashion accessory Nicole Wong needs. “Bags,” she says without hesitation. “I carry a lot of ‘essentials’ so I can’t go anywhere without a bag to contain them.” The brand owner of Sometime by Asian Designers, Nicole’s fashion is as minimalistic and clean as the bags the label off ers. Often dressed in monochromatic colours, her daily outfits consist of comfort-first staples such as a loose plain dr ess or button-up shirt with jeans, and of course her street-chic Axel Arigato shoes that she swears by. “Every day, my job is to conceptualise, design and create the next iconic collection of fashion accessories. A huge element of the work is to be able to match or pair products with the wardrobe. Naturally, through time and after the tens of thousands of products and styles that I have gone through in my career, I’ve found what’s right and suitable for me,” she explains. As the icing on the cak e, she dresses up her outfits with bags fr om her own collection. “I love the Niko-niko mini for the weekend and Riclutch for an evening outing, whether casual or formal. My latest personal favourite for work is the Edie designed by Jason Wu. I can fit a laptop, charger, plus a 1-litre water bottle, basically my entire life in it,” she says with a smile as we arrange said bag for its own photo shoot. Eschewing visible labels on her bags, Nicole keeps the brand’s designs clean and versatile. The materials are of top quality, and sourced from places all across the globe, ranging from Massachusetts to Shenzen and India—after which the parts are then sent to Kuala Lumpur to be meticulously assembled. “When you come across a Sometime bag, you will know it is done by us,” Nicole concluded, as she led us on a brief tour through the brightly lit showroom full of Sometime’s bags.
