The way Karina Grewal transforms from sexy to classy, à la an Asian Audrey Hepburn, adds to her charm to be sure. Clad in a comfy top and wrap skirt combo, the petite beauty greeted us at Alila Bangsar’s lobby, fitting right in with the hotel’s tropical vibes. It’s evident her style has evolved from her days as a contestant vying for the crown in Miss Universe Malaysia. As comfort first has become her requirement when it comes to dressing up, she also practises minimalism when it comes to accessorising. A good mix of classics and chic outfits make up Karina’s wardrobe, but dresses and skirts dominate the collection. “I’ve always gone for more maxi and midi dresses, skirts and crop tops,” she remarks with a smile as she pulled out several dresses and skirt combos to show us. Her obsession with colours and clothing began from a very young age, leading to her foray into the world of fashion. Karina doesn’t have any hard and fast rules when it comes to her style, but often gravitates towards more feminine looks, particularly chic, sexy or whimsical ones. “I usually get my outfits from all over the place. I like to get anything that catches my eye,” she explains while picking out the bag to match her outfit. “But I really love my denim, it’s my wardrobe essential; my ideal outfit for everyday wear would be a denim dress.” However, her favourite piece from her entire collection would be the white gold ‘K’ pendant on a chain that she usually wears around her neck. “It’s a gift from someone dear to me.” Like most of us, Karina draws inspiration for her outfits from fashion shows, movies, magazines and our perennial favourite—social media. Her mum and sister also provide her with plenty of fashion inspiration, having always been fashionable ladies themselves.
