Lockdown got you feeling high & dry? Show some support for these local bars, which are doing their best to stay afloat

DISSOLVED SOLIDS

Tracia Chan and Jack Lai, two bartenders in their twenties, were among the first to deliver cocktails from Dissolved Solids in Damansara Kim to housebound tipplers. Ice is served separately to prevent dilution, and garnishes, if any, come in tiny sealable plastic bags. The assembly process is a no-brainer: simply combine the two or three components. Provided they have no other deliveries, Chan and Lai can fix your drink(s) on the spot.

Tatler Tip: Dissolved Solid’s Negroni (RM38) and Old Fashioned (RM42) can be stored in your refrigerator for up to a year.

COLEY

Recently named one of Asia’s 50 Best Bars for the third year running (2018 through 2020), Coley was quick to introduce canned ‘Koktels’ for takeaway or delivery when the coronavirus began to peak. The bar reopened at the end of May, but continues to serve to-go drinks for those who still harbour fears of being out and about. Our favourite cocktails in their to-go series fall under the low-proof category. Ideal for daytime drinking, these leave less of a hangover and come in resealable glass bottles— Mother Nature would approve!

Tatler Tip: Pair the low-proof rosemary cocktail with lemony fish or roast chicken.

BAR SHAKE

Sam Kinugawa, the slightly solemn, bespectacled bartender behind Bar Shake, yearns for the day he’ll finally be allowed to serve customers again. After all, face-to-face interaction lies at the heart of Japanese bartending. “Most classic Japanese cocktail bars offer seated service only, and the ritual is very intimate and personal with pared down theatrics,” explains Kinugawa. Loyal patrons might miss the mystery and excitement of locating the speakeasy’s obscure entrance, but can still enjoy the Bar Shake experience from home. “All our cocktails are still madeto-order,” Kinugawa assures. “Fresh juice is squeezed just before the cocktails are delivered.”

Tatler Tip: Bar Shake is synonymous with Fresh Fruit Saketinis, which differ depending on what fruits are in season.
