No Second Wasted

Wearing Omega’s timepieces, being the official timekeeper for the Olympics, three of Malaysia’s competitive divers prove an unwavering fluidity when it comes to both the sport and doing cover shoots

It was an early Sunday morning when we began the first half of our Olympic photoshoot with Nur Dhabitah Sabri and Ng Yan Yee; the second half of it done on a Saturday afternoon with Leong Mun Yee as the divers’ schedules were hectic while they prepared for the Tokyo Olympics (the event was still on schedule at the time. It has since been postponed to a later date).

The ladies all had noticeably varying characters as they filed into the studio; where Dhabitah was spunky and energetic, Yan Yee was softer but no less cheerful, while Mun Yee, the eldest of the trio, was a calm presence as she came to the set with her partner in tow.

“It’s fine! We’re used to it,” reassures Yan Yee as she tucks into her breakfast, watching Dhabitah get ready for their first session with an almost giddy expression. Much like Mun Yee, who had come rushing to the studio after her training in the morning at Bukit Jalil, the younger duo barely batted an eye as they swapped one outfit after another, posing with ease despite the added challenge of using Technogym equipment as props. In one of the shots Mun Yee had done, everyone hovered anxiously behind the scenes as she perched precariously on a set of miniature stairs in Stuart Weitzman high heels, hefting a dumbbell singlehandedly with a focused expression.

During the interview, Dhabitah glanced surreptitiously at her mother when asked about her future plans after the Olympics. Her manager, who tagged along as well, laughed at the sight. “I think the answers might come out a little too tailored because mum’s here watching,” she teases.
