Beyond Classroom Walls

Marlborough College Malaysia offers an all-rounded, transformative experience with growth, compassion and purpose at the heart of its curriculum

-

Imagine a school where children explore towering rainforests, paddle across a serene lake, and cultivate vegetables in their own organic garden—all within a sprawling campus. This is the captivating reality at Marlborough College Malaysia (MCM). The British-style boarding school, nestled amid 90 acres of lush greenery, prioritises holistic development and encourages a lifelong love of learning.

WHERE SPACE FUELS POSSIBILITY

What truly sets MCM apart is the sheer sense of space where classrooms extend far beyond brick walls. The school’s expansive campus serves as a living laboratory, for students of all ages to immerse themselves in the wonders of nature. Boasting state-of-the-art facilities, the possibilities for exploration and development are endless at MCM. The school is equipped with an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a high-performance fitness centre, a golf driving range, a climbing arena and even a boating and fishing lake.

HANDS-ON CONNECTION WITH NATURE

MCM recognises the profound impact of the natural world on a child’s development and this philosophy is woven into the very fabric of the curriculum. The youngest minds get a head start with the weekly Forest School sessions, exploring the wonders of nature and igniting their sense of curiosity. As students progress through prep school, MCM offers a plethora of co-curricular activities to enrich young minds, such as martial arts, archery, paddleboarding and more.

At the heart of MCM’S campus lies Barton Farm, a haven for experiential learning. This organic farm allows students of all ages to get their hands dirty, learning about ecology, food production,

and sustainable farming practices. Whether caring for chickens, harvesting fresh vegetables, or observing the industrious stingless bees, this farm serves as a living classroom to help students develop a deeper appreciation for nature.

This emphasis on outdoor learning extends beyond the elementary years. MCM’S recent membership with the Institute of Outdoor Learning in the UK signifies a steadfast commitment to integrating the outdoors into all aspects of education. From incorporating elements of conservation work into beach trips to harnessing the power of nature to reduce stress and boost wellbeing, MCM’S approach ensures a well-rounded learning experience that caters to diverse needs.

GROWING THROUGH PERFORMING ARTS

MCM has recently established multiple new music ensembles and choral groups, including the MCM Community Pops Chorus and Orchestra. The Pops Choir aims to make music accessible to all, fostering an inclusive environment for beginners and seasoned musicians alike.

Musical engagement offers students the benefits of reduced stress, increased social connectedness, enhanced empathy and teamwork skills with real-world applications that extend beyond the classroom. The choir and orchestra are open to all members of the MCM community.

Beginning in 2023, musicians and singers from across the school gathered for a Seasonal Festival of Music, spreading cheer through performances of Christmas carols and other seasonal tunes that showcased the talent within MCM. Budding thespians also have opportunities to take to the stage. This year, the Prep School produced their own musical production of Moana, while Senior School pupils take part in a production produced and directed by the Lower 6th for their IB Diploma.

UNLOCKING CREATIVE POTENTIAL

Another new venture by MCM, The Master’s Art Competition offered students a chance to showcase their artwork in the Master’s Lodge for the year. Open to all students from pre-prep up to the sixth form, thematic prompts invited students on a journey of self-expression and artistic development. The openended nature of art encouraged the students to take more risks, fostering flexibility in thought as it enhanced confidence.
