THE proposal to increase the age limit for Puteri Umno members from 35 to 40 is set to take centre stage again during the Umno General Assembly later this month.

Malacca Puteri Umno chief Azlieza Azizan said Alor Gajah Puteri Umno chief Azniza Ahmad Khuzari would raise the matter again on Nov 30 as there was still no decision on the issue despite it being raised several years ago.

She said just like previous years, the matter had been brought up at the movement’s divisional meetings earlier this year.

“So, this year, we will continue our fight for the proposal to be accepted.

“Malacca Puteri Umno will emphasise the significance of the proposal at the Puteri Umno General Assembly,” she said.

She said the age limit for Puteri Umno members needed to be standardised with the age limit for Umno Youth members, which was set at 40.

Azlieza, who is also Puteri Umno permanent chairman, said the new age limit, if implemented, would give Puteri Umno members longer time to serve the movement before moving to Wanita Umno.

She said the movement had to work hard every year to recruit new members to compensate for the loss of its members to the women’s wing due to the current age limit.

“The age limit also led to confusion in terms of who is responsible to look after voters aged between 36 and 40.

“Based on the current age limit, Puteri Umno takes care of voters below 35, while Wanita Umno handles those above 40,” she said, adding that she did not want any voter to be neglected by the party.

She said the issue could easily be resolved if the age limit for Puteri Umno members was raised to 40.
