Ton­ton, GoAsean to fuel wan­der­lust

PE­TAL­ING JAYA: VIP sub­scribers of ton­ton, a video stream­ing ser­vice, will gain in­sights into the hid­den trea­sures of South­east Asian via GoAsean’s travel pro­grammes come April 1.

The new part­ner­ship be­tween ton­ton and the award-winning Asian travel con­tent pro­ducer is in con­junc­tion with Asean@50, a cam­paign cel­e­brat­ing the 50th an­niver­sary of the As­so­ci­a­tion of South­east Asian Na­tions.

Dur­ing the sign­ing cer­e­mony for the mem­o­ran­dum of un­der­stand­ing be­tween ton­ton and GoAsean at Seri Pen­tas in Ban­dar Utama here yes­ter­day, GoAsean brand vice-pres­i­dent Zefny Idris said: “Our new part­ner­ship with ton­ton marks a sig­nif­i­cant mile­stone and we look for­ward to ex­pand our reach for the on-de­mand gen­er­a­tion of to­day. Be­sides that, we will con­tinue to pro­duce high-qual­ity con­tent that pro­motes South­east Asia’s tourist des­ti­na­tions.”

Ton­ton di­rec­tor of li­cens­ing and mer­chan­dis­ing Airin Zainul said: “Ton­ton users con­sumed by wan­der­lust will now have some­thing ex­tra to look for­ward to as they get to watch new travel shows on the go.

“Many of us love to travel, and this plat­form guides trav­ellers ef­fec­tively as they can watch pro­grammes any­time and any­where.”

Airin added that based on viewer feed­back, re­gional tourism pro­grammes were in de­mand, and this prompted ton­ton to work with GoAsean, one of the re­gion’s big­gest names in travel pro­grammes.

“GoAsean is pro­vid­ing view­ers with ton­ton’s first travel seg­ment, and we are con­fi­dent that it will be pop­u­lar with sub­scribers.

“South­east Asia has a lot of ex­cit­ing cul­tures, peo­ples, des­ti­na­tions, food and tra­di­tions, which travel en­thu­si­asts love.”

She said ton­ton would pro­mote its new GoAsean seg­ment on Me­dia Prima tele­vi­sion net­works, such as TV3 and ntv7, as well as on so­cial me­dia. Ton­ton will also go on a road­show to pro­mote GoAsean pro­grammes.

Zefny said come De­cem­ber, new ti­tles on Astro Chan­nel 737 would join GoAsean’s pro­grammes.

“We have 17 pro­grammes, cov­er­ing 60 hours and 700 tourist des­ti­na­tions. More will come year-end, and like­wise, there will be an in­crease in the num­ber of pro­gramme hosts, up from 10.”

GoAsean fea­tures travel pro­duc­tions in the form of per­sonal ex­pe­ri­ences and high­lights des­ti­na­tions, peo­ples and cul­tures in South­east Asia.

Pro­gramme hosts in­clude Rovil­son Fer­nan­dez, Daniel Woodroof, Josiah Ho­gan, Nadiyah Sha­hab, Razif Hashim, Qi Razali, Papi Zak, Jonathan Pu­tra and Thanuja Anan­than.
