Tonton, GoAsean to fuel wanderlust
PETALING JAYA: VIP subscribers of tonton, a video streaming service, will gain insights into the hidden treasures of Southeast Asian via GoAsean’s travel programmes come April 1.
The new partnership between tonton and the award-winning Asian travel content producer is in conjunction with Asean@50, a campaign celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
During the signing ceremony for the memorandum of understanding between tonton and GoAsean at Seri Pentas in Bandar Utama here yesterday, GoAsean brand vice-president Zefny Idris said: “Our new partnership with tonton marks a significant milestone and we look forward to expand our reach for the on-demand generation of today. Besides that, we will continue to produce high-quality content that promotes Southeast Asia’s tourist destinations.”
Tonton director of licensing and merchandising Airin Zainul said: “Tonton users consumed by wanderlust will now have something extra to look forward to as they get to watch new travel shows on the go.
“Many of us love to travel, and this platform guides travellers effectively as they can watch programmes anytime and anywhere.”
Airin added that based on viewer feedback, regional tourism programmes were in demand, and this prompted tonton to work with GoAsean, one of the region’s biggest names in travel programmes.
“GoAsean is providing viewers with tonton’s first travel segment, and we are confident that it will be popular with subscribers.
“Southeast Asia has a lot of exciting cultures, peoples, destinations, food and traditions, which travel enthusiasts love.”
She said tonton would promote its new GoAsean segment on Media Prima television networks, such as TV3 and ntv7, as well as on social media. Tonton will also go on a roadshow to promote GoAsean programmes.
Zefny said come December, new titles on Astro Channel 737 would join GoAsean’s programmes.
“We have 17 programmes, covering 60 hours and 700 tourist destinations. More will come year-end, and likewise, there will be an increase in the number of programme hosts, up from 10.”
GoAsean features travel productions in the form of personal experiences and highlights destinations, peoples and cultures in Southeast Asia.
Programme hosts include Rovilson Fernandez, Daniel Woodroof, Josiah Hogan, Nadiyah Shahab, Razif Hashim, Qi Razali, Papi Zak, Jonathan Putra and Thanuja Ananthan.
