LONG WAIT FOR MAID’S PERMIT
IT has been a long wait for his maid’s work permit and Nizamuddin is worried since the old permit expired on March 12.
“I waited for more than 10 days after applying to renew her permit online on March 2. There was no call from MyEG,” he said.
“I have been renewing my maid’s permit at the Immigration Department for more than 20 years without any problem. But since MyEG was given the contract to offer this service, it has always been late.”
He said he did not want to be fined for something that was not his fault.
“When it was done through the Immigration Department, it would take only up to three hours to get the permit done. However, with MyEG, it is taking too long.”
Nizamuddin said he had to show up late to work on Monday as he was waiting for the arrival of the permit at home.
“On March 10, at 8.50am, MyEG sent me an email telling me that it was arranging for the delivery of the permit. ”
Nizamuddin said: “I waited till noon but no one contacted me nor did anyone show up at my house.”

Apologising for the delay, a MyEG spokesman told line that the earliest ry for the permit was March 13.
“The department responsible for maid permits said the permit and I-Card will be delivered to the employer on Monday.
“We were informed that due to the data not being updated in the system, the I-Card could not be printed earlier. Hence, the delay.”
However, checks by Actionline found that the employer had yet to received the permit on March 13 as the delivery man could not do so at Nizamuddin’s office. “I was again late to work because I was waiting for the permit to be delivered to my house.
“Only when I arrived at the office did the delivery man call me. But because I was not at home and he needed my thumbprint, the permit could not be sent.”
He said he had to collect the permit at MyEG’s Kuala Lumpur office.
