MMEA: New ves­sels will beef up safety in na­tion’s waters

“Many of the ves­sels and boats that we have to­day are old and had been in ser­vice past their vi­able age.

“These ves­sels have to un­dergo con­stant re­pairs and ser­vic­ing, which is not cost-ef­fec­tive.

“With the new ves­sels, MMEA can fo­cus bet­ter on its core du­ties and have more ships guard­ing Malaysian waters round-the­clock,” he said af­ter the nam­ing and launch cer­e­mony of MMEA’s first New Gen­er­a­tion Pa­trol Craft (NGPC) yes­ter­day.

The NGPC, of­fi­cially named KM Ba­gan Datuk and launched yes­ter­day by Prime Min­is­ter Datuk Seri Na­jib Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Ros­mah Man­sor, will be the largest, fastest and most so­phis­ti­cated ves­sel to en­ter the en­force­ment agency’s fleet.
