MMEA: New vessels will beef up safety in nation’s waters

- >>

“Many of the vessels and boats that we have today are old and had been in service past their viable age.

“These vessels have to undergo constant repairs and servicing, which is not cost-effective.

“With the new vessels, MMEA can focus better on its core duties and have more ships guarding Malaysian waters round-theclock,” he said after the naming and launch ceremony of MMEA’s first New Generation Patrol Craft (NGPC) yesterday.

The NGPC, officially named KM Bagan Datuk and launched yesterday by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, will be the largest, fastest and most sophisticated vessel to enter the enforcement agency’s fleet.
