THAILAND’s Trang Tennis Club were on cloud nine when their players thrashed hosts PSC Red 5-0 in the biennial PSC International Invitational Tennis Tournament 2017 at the Penang Sports Club Tennis Complex in George Town recently.

It was a first for Trang as team captain Sompol Thienvichai said they were declared as joint champions with Selangor’s Subang Jaya Lakeview Club in 2013 as the competition was abandoned due to bad weather.

They were defeated by Subang Jaya Lakeview Club in the 2015 semi-finals, settling for third spot after defeating PSC Black.

Trang won a trophy, medals, tennis bags and RM2,000 in cash prize while PSC Red received medals and RM1,000. Singapore Chinese Swimming Club and Taiping Chinese Recreation Club each won medals and RM750 and RM500 for finishing third and fourth respectively.

Thienvichai said they were very confident of winning the trophy this time as the team had prepared well.

“It was a successful competition. So much of team work. It was a team effort,” said Thienvichai after receiving the challenge trophy from PSC president Loo Choo Teng.

Organising committee chairman Lim Cheng Eng said four teams from Australia, Singapore, Thailand and Japan made up the 13 sides who competed in the three-day tournament.
