LRT AUX­IL­IARY COPS NAB MAN WHO HA­RASSED STU­DENT

Sus­pect had whis­pered vul­gar words and made ‘naughty’ face to vic­tim

AMAN sus­pected of sex­u­ally ha­rass­ing a fe­male pas­sen­ger on a Ke­lana Jaya Line LRT train was ap­pre­hended by the Prasarana aux­il­iary po­lice on Thurs­day. The 37-year-old per­vert, from Lem­bah Subang, Se­lan­gor, was picked up at the Ta­man Jaya LRT sta­tion.

Prasarana aux­il­iary po­lice had been hot on the trail of the man who had whis­pered vul­gar words and made “naughty” face to the vic­tim, Nur Dini Van Haeren, in the 7.57am in­ci­dent on March 13.

The 21-year-old stu­dent at a pri­vate univer­sity in the Klang Val­ley posted her hor­ren­dous ex­pe­ri­ence on Face­book.

She said as she boarded the train at the Ke­lana Jaya sta­tion en route to the city cen­tre, the sus­pect looked at her “up and down with a very naughty face”.

She said the man whis­pered some words to her which she felt were vul­gar.

Nur Dini man­aged to snap pic­tures of the man us­ing her hand­phone. He got off at the Ta­man Para­mount sta­tion.

She said she could have done more to pro­tect her­self at that mo­ment such as shout­ing out or telling other pas­sen­gers about the ha­rasser.

How­ever, she said she was afraid and em­bar­rassed.

She ex­pressed her ap­pre­ci­a­tion and lauded the Prasarana team, which re­sponded swiftly to her plight, and its re­lent­less pur­suit in ap­pre­hend­ing the per­pe­tra­tor.

Pe­tal­ing Jaya po­lice chief As­sis­tant Com­mis­sioner Mohd Zani Che Din con­firmed the ar­rest of the sus­pect.
