PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) political clout is expected to be rendered toothless before the interests of DAP, after the fledgling party announced its intentions to join Pakatan Harapan on Wednesday.
Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said he foresaw PPBM sacrificing its principles in order to appease DAP leaders.
Annuar said Pas formerly faced the dilemma when it was part of the defunct Pakatan Rakyat.
“So, in PPBM’s case, I foresee that they will have to bow to DAP’s policies to win votes in the general election.”
Annuar said DAP would not compromise under the “dictatorial leadership” of party adviser Lim Kit Siang.
“Umno had changed four presidents through the period, but Lim is still ruling the party for 51 years. So, the public can evaluate for themselves on what DAP is all about,” he said at the opening of Kedah Umno branches’ annual general meeting in Alor Biak here yesterday.
The meeting was opened by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, who is also the state Umno liaison committee chairman.
Present were his deputy, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, state Umno secretary Datuk Mohd Rozai Shafian, its treasurer Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim and Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
Earlier, Annuar reminded Kedah Umno to defend the state at all cost, as Prime Minister and party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak had regarded Kedah as “the heart of Umno”.
