KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V yesterday attended the royal commissioning parade of Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia cadet officers.

The ruler presented letters of appointment to 339 cadet officers, who completed four to five years of studies in various fields at the university.

They comprised 194 cadet officers, who were commissioned to serve in the Malaysian Army, Royal Malaysian Air Force (97) and Royal Malaysian Navy (48).

Cadet officer Muhd Hafiz Muhd Yusoff, who graduated with a degree in electrical engineering and power electronics, was named the “Best Overall Cadet Officer” at the event at Kem Perdana Sungai Besi here.

Present were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, his deputy, Datuk Mohd Johari Baharum, Malaysian Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed and UPNM Vice-Chancellor Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin.

The king also reminded the young officers to have good values and character to prevent from being influenced by unhealthy elements.

With a good foundation in the military profession, he said the young officers should be ready to continue the military tradition of willing to sacrifice for religion, people and the country’s sovereignty.

The cadet officers had completed their training while pursuing their degrees at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia. Bernama
