84 awarded for math, science achievements
KUANTAN: The national-level Mathematics and Science Olympiad saw 84 students representing 14 states winning awards and recognition for their achievements in Maths and Science.
They bagged prize money of between RM1,000 and RM300, gold, silver and bronze certificates, and participation certificates. The awards were presented by Pahang Health Committee chairman Datuk Norol Azali Sulaiman on behalf of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob at the International Islamic University of Malaysia here.
Around 4,000 students have competed at 12 locations until Feb 13, then on the national stage here on Friday and yesterday.
The event, organised by Gagasan Pendidikan Melayu Malaysia (Gagasan), is aimed at creating innovative individuals and boosting the interest among Malay and Bumiputera students in science, technology, engineering, and math. Present was Gagasan president Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also works minister.
Naza Corporation Holdings sponsored RM400,000 for the competition. Media Prima is the official media partner for the event.
