84 awarded for math, science achieve­ments

KUAN­TAN: The na­tional-level Math­e­mat­ics and Science Olympiad saw 84 stu­dents rep­re­sent­ing 14 states win­ning awards and recog­ni­tion for their achieve­ments in Maths and Science.

They bagged prize money of be­tween RM1,000 and RM300, gold, sil­ver and bronze cer­tifi­cates, and par­tic­i­pa­tion cer­tifi­cates. The awards were pre­sented by Pa­hang Health Com­mit­tee chair­man Datuk Norol Azali Su­laiman on be­half of Men­teri Be­sar Datuk Seri Ad­nan Yaakob at the In­ter­na­tional Is­lamic Univer­sity of Malaysia here.

Around 4,000 stu­dents have com­peted at 12 lo­ca­tions un­til Feb 13, then on the na­tional stage here on Fri­day and yes­ter­day.

The event, or­gan­ised by Ga­gasan Pen­didikan Me­layu Malaysia (Ga­gasan), is aimed at cre­at­ing in­no­va­tive in­di­vid­u­als and boost­ing the in­ter­est among Malay and Bu­mi­put­era stu­dents in science, tech­nol­ogy, engi­neer­ing, and math. Present was Ga­gasan pres­i­dent Datuk Seri Fadil­lah Yu­sof, who is also works min­is­ter.

Naza Cor­po­ra­tion Hold­ings spon­sored RM400,000 for the com­pe­ti­tion. Me­dia Prima is the of­fi­cial me­dia part­ner for the event.
