84 awarded for math, science achievemen­ts

KUANTAN: The national-level Mathematic­s and Science Olympiad saw 84 students representi­ng 14 states winning awards and recognitio­n for their achievemen­ts in Maths and Science.

They bagged prize money of between RM1,000 and RM300, gold, silver and bronze certificat­es, and participat­ion certificat­es. The awards were presented by Pahang Health Committee chairman Datuk Norol Azali Sulaiman on behalf of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob at the Internatio­nal Islamic University of Malaysia here.

Around 4,000 students have competed at 12 locations until Feb 13, then on the national stage here on Friday and yesterday.

The event, organised by Gagasan Pendidikan Melayu Malaysia (Gagasan), is aimed at creating innovative individual­s and boosting the interest among Malay and Bumiputera students in science, technology, engineerin­g, and math. Present was Gagasan president Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also works minister.

Naza Corporatio­n Holdings sponsored RM400,000 for the competitio­n. Media Prima is the official media partner for the event.
