Wedding present for Ben
GOLFER Ben Leong reckons his upcoming wedding is the factor behind his win at the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Northport Glenmarie Championship yesterday.
Ben beat Englishman Steve Lewton by seven strokes.
“Definitely with the way I’m playing, it’s bringing me a lot of luck and I’m looking forward to my big day,” he said.
This is Ben’s first win at a co-sanctioned Asian Tour Development event and a second PGM win this year. He picked up RM35,000 for his effort of 20-under-par 196.
“The win came as a surprise for me and we have a local event in Port Dickson (Mar 29-Apr 1) but I’m going to give it a pass because of my wedding (in May).”
Lewton played to an aggregate of 13under-par in second while Masaru Takahashi of Japan, China's Liu Yan-Wei, Donlaphatchai Niyomchon of Thailand and Scotland's James Byrne shared third at 12under 204.
Gavin Green, who emerged runner-up at last weekend’s Hero Indian Open, settled for joint 18th, playing to an aggregate of eight-under 208.
The 2016 PGM Order of Merit winner Nicholas Fung shared 10th with three other golfers following his effort of 10-underpar 207.
The tournament was reduced to 54holes due to inclement weather.
