Adibah Noor to release album of duets soon
LOOKING a little restless these days, singer and actress Adibah Noor admits she is a little preoccupied.
The soulful entertainer, known for her popular tune Terlalu Istimewa, is anxious to get her latest album of duets Jiwa Sentuh Jiwa out in the market.
“By hook or by crook, it needs to be released this year. I can’t wait anymore, it’s been too long. I know it has been a while since I last released a single or an album. I don’t want my fans to forget that I am also a singer,” said the 46-year-old former English teacher whose last album outing was the 2010’s Teman.
Citing timing as the reason behind the delay, she said that while the album had been ready for release last year, it would have been one of many.
“The local music scene saw an explosion of collaborations and duets between popular singers, such as Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and Faizal Tahir for Dirgahayu; Misha Omar and Hafiz Suip for Terimaku Seadanya; Syamsul Yusof and Mawi for Kalah Dalam Menang; and, SonaOne, Joe Flizzow and Akeem for Go Do That.
“And, I didn’t want mine to get sidelined, so I figured I might as well wait for a bit and release it this year instead,” said the comedienne at the launch of Astro’s new Malay drama slots on Astro Warna (channel 123) and Astro Oasis (channel 106) at Saloma Theatre Restaurant in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, recently.
Adibah, who won the hearts of many playing Cikgu Adibah in the late Yasmin Ahmad movies such as Sepet and Talentime, said the eight-track album featured duets with artistes such as Misha Omar, Anuar Zain, Amir Jahari and Sam Innuendo.
As for acting, Adibah will soon star in the upcoming television drama series Jadikan Aku Yang Kedua, which will air on Monday to Wednesday at 9pm on Astro Oasis, beginning April 3.
Directed by Rashid Sibir, the 18-episode drama stars Yana Samsudin, Amyra Rosli and Amar Baharin.
Based on the novel of the same name by Siti Khadijah, Adibah plays Latifah, a mother to Yana’s character,
Wawa.
This marks Adibah’s third collaboration with Rashid.
She is expected to work with him again in the later part of this year in another drama entitled Bisik Kepada Allah.
