Skid rule southern region

SKID Taekwondo Club celebrated a first as they emerged overall champions in the 12th Nestle Koko Krunch Junior Taekwondo Championsh­ip – Southern Region at the UTEM Indoor Stadium in Ayer Keroh recently.

Johor-based Skid, in winning the overall title with a haul of 15 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze medals, dethroned 10-time champions Koryo Taekwondo Club. A total 391 exponents from 12 clubs competed.

Skid had also dethroned Koryo as the champions in last year’s Nestle Koko Krunch Junior Taekwondo Championsh­ip Grand Final in Kuala Lumpur.

Skid were in dominant form in the southern region event as they also grabbed the overall titles in the boys’ and girls’ categories. Skid exponents won 8 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals for the boys’ title with Koryo (4-4-14) second and Southern Taekwondo Club (2-0-3) third.

Skid’s girls won 7 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals for the overall title with Koryo again second with 4 gold, 7 silver and 12 bronze medals. Third were Matsa Taekwondo Club with 1 gold and 4 silver medals.

An additional honour for Skid came through Ahmad Asyraf Hakimi Mazrulheza­m who was picked as the best performer for the boys’ 10-12 age-group.

Koryo’s Siti Naima Natasya Sheikh Ibrahim received the girls’ 10-12 honour.

Matsa’s Muhammad Hariez Zaiqf Hayazid won the boys’ 7-9 title and Southern’s Nur Aleya Batishah the girls’ honour.
