Exclusive showcase by Sheila Majid

- Dennis Chua

COME April 29, fans of Datuk Sheila Majid will be the first to experience a showcase of songs from her latest album, live at the Belum Rainforest Resort in Pulau Banding in Grik, Perak.

The exclusive event will be held in an intimate setting against the natural backdrop of one of the world’s oldest rainforests.

The resort is surrounded by the BelumTemengor Tropical Rainforest Complex, measuring four times the size of Singapore and carbon-dated to be approximately 130 million years old (older than the Amazon and Congo).

Besides providing a treat for fans, the showcase also aims to highlight the importance of environmental conservation, a cause deeply ingrained into the corporate DNA of Belum Conservation, as well as the Pulau Banding Foundation, which was set up to preserve and protect its natural surroundings.

Pulau Banding Foundation is a non-profit organisation which promotes research and eco-tourism through the sustainable development of the rainforest ecosystem of the Belum-Temengor Rainforest Complex.

A portion of the proceeds from the showcase will be channelled towards the foundation.

“It is a privilege to work with Belum Conservation and the Pulau Banding Foundation in their noble efforts of promoting environmental conservation,” said Sheila.

“Belum Rainforest Resort presents a breathtaking venue for this initiative, and I can’t think of a better way to introduce my latest album to the world,” she added.

Sheila was speaking at the recent launch of the showcase at the Belum Conservation office in Menara Mustapha Kamal, Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya.

It was also attended by Belum Conservation executive director Ahmad Khalif Tan Sri Mustapha Kamal and Pulau Banding Foundation chief executive officer Datuk Dr Abdul Rashid Malik. “We at Belum Conservation would like to see BelumTemengor still be in existence not only in our lifetime or our children’s, but for generations to come. This mission can only succeed when more people understand the urgency of why it needs to be protected starting today,” said Ahmad Khalif.

Special packages are available for purchase at Belum Rainforest Resort, starting at a 2 Days/1 Night (inclusive of accommodation, food and beverages and exclusive access to the showcase).

Packages are priced RM3,100 to RM6,000. Call 012-678 8676 / 017-330 8017 / 016-217 1687. Details at www.belumrainforestresort.com.
