THE National Higher Education Carnival 2017 (NHEC2017), targeted at school-leavers, is back to provide information and guidance on applications to study at public universities and institutions of higher learning.
The carnival had been held in seven states starting with Kelantan in February. It then went to Perlis, Johor, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak.
The closing ceremony will be held today at Dewan Tuanku Can-selor Universiti Sains Islam Ma-laysia (USIM) in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.
Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching will officiate the ceremony.
USIM Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Musa Ahmad said the carnival was a highly anticipated event, especially among students, parents, teachers and local communities.
“The carnival, which will be held in USIM tomorrow (today), will be the focus of students from not only Negri Sembilan, but also Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur.
“A lot of students want to get information on academic programmes and education opportunities directly from the institutions.
“The carnival serves as a onestop centre that provides information on higher education opportunities and financing.
“They (students) can also obtain information about entry requirements and career paths, as well as available programmes and courses nationwide.
“SPM school-leavers have the opportunity to communicate directly with representatives from public universities at the carnival booths.
“Around 1,500 booths will be set up tomorrow (today). Financial institutions that provide funding and scholarship information will also be present.”
Musa said seminars on enrolment into universities would be held at the carnival, which would be open to counsellors and teachers, too, to equip them with information to share with their students.
Among activities lined up for USIM’s NHEC2017 are an education exhibition at the university’s Tuanku Najihah Sports Complex, seminars on higher education opportunities, career briefing sessions, education counselling counters, research exhibitions, archery/petanque demonstrations, USIM cultural performances and food trucks, among others.
Guests will also be entertained by artistes, including Siti Nordiana and Caliph Buskers, other than a special appearance by Didi & Friends.
