Review every five years
KUALA LUMPUR: The fare rate for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system will be reviewed every five years, the Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, however, said a review did not mean that the fare would increase.
“A review will take into account many aspects such as costs concerning overhead, vehicle maintenance, electrical usage, railway structure and station, and depot maintenance. We will undertake steps to help us in the handling of the MRT.
“The fare rate will not be increased like how it is done in (highway) concession agreements,” she said during the ministerial question time yesterday.
Nancy (BN-Batang Sadong) was replying to a supplementary question by Datuk Ahmad Fauzi Zahari (BN-Setiawangsa) on whether the highway toll structure would be applied to the MRT’s fare structure.
