Re­view ev­ery five years

KUALA LUMPUR: The fare rate for the Mass Rapid Tran­sit (MRT) sys­tem will be re­viewed ev­ery five years, the De­wan Rakyat was told yes­ter­day.

Min­is­ter in the Prime Min­is­ter’s De­part­ment Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, how­ever, said a re­view did not mean that the fare would in­crease.

“A re­view will take into ac­count many as­pects such as costs con­cern­ing over­head, ve­hi­cle main­te­nance, elec­tri­cal us­age, rail­way struc­ture and sta­tion, and de­pot main­te­nance. We will un­der­take steps to help us in the han­dling of the MRT.

“The fare rate will not be in­creased like how it is done in (high­way) con­ces­sion agree­ments,” she said dur­ing the min­is­te­rial ques­tion time yes­ter­day.

Nancy (BN-Batang Sadong) was re­ply­ing to a sup­ple­men­tary ques­tion by Datuk Ah­mad Fauzi Za­hari (BN-Se­ti­awangsa) on whether the high­way toll struc­ture would be ap­plied to the MRT’s fare struc­ture.
