World Cup Un­der-17 fi­nal in Kolkata

KOLKATA: Foot­ball’s world gov­ern­ing body Fifa have cho­sen the east­ern city of Kolkata to host the fi­nal of the un­der-17 World Cup to be held in In­dia.

A team of Fifa of­fi­cials com­pleted a week-long tour and fi­nalised six venues for the Fifa U17 World Cup In­dia 2017, which is sched­uled to be­gin on Oct 28.

The Salt Lake Sta­dium in Kolkata will also host the quar­ter fi­nals and the play­off for third place.

Tour­na­ment matches will also be held in New Delhi, Navi Mum­bai, Goa, Guwa­hati and Kochi, the head of Fifa events, Jaime Yarza said on Mon­day.

“Foot­ball Takes Over” was de­clared the slo­gan of the tour­na­ment, the draw for which will be held in Mum­bai on July 7. AP
