World Cup Under-17 final in Kolkata

KOLKATA: Football’s world governing body Fifa have chosen the eastern city of Kolkata to host the final of the under-17 World Cup to be held in India.

A team of Fifa officials completed a week-long tour and finalised six venues for the Fifa U17 World Cup India 2017, which is scheduled to begin on Oct 28.

The Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata will also host the quarter finals and the playoff for third place.

Tournament matches will also be held in New Delhi, Navi Mumbai, Goa, Guwahati and Kochi, the head of Fifa events, Jaime Yarza said on Monday.

“Football Takes Over” was declared the slogan of the tournament, the draw for which will be held in Mumbai on July 7. AP
