Astro rev­enue rises on strong cus­tomer base

KUALA LUMPUR: Astro Malaysia Hold­ings Bhd re­ported a one per cent in­crease in its profit af­ter tax and mi­nor­ity in­ter­est to RM624 mil­lion on the back of a two per cent rise in rev­enue to RM5.6 bil­lion for the fi­nan­cial year ended Jan­uary 31.

Its cus­tomer base grew by six per cent to 5.1 mil­lion, with paytele­vi­sion (TV) users hold­ing steady at 3.5 mil­lion. NJOI recorded a huge jump of 30 per cent to 1.7 mil­lion cus­tomers.

The com­pany’s e-com­merce ini­tia­tive, Go Shop, saw 38 per cent rev­enue growth to RM261 mil­lion and sold 1.5 mil­lion prod­ucts to 912,000 cus­tomers as of Jan­uary.

“We are cur­rently present in 71 per cent house­holds, which equates to 21 mil­lion fam­ily mem­bers across 5.1 mil­lion homes, while our dig­i­tal prop­er­ties reg­is­ter close to 5.8 mil­lion vis­i­tors ev­ery month,” said its group chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Datuk Ro­hana Rozhan at a brief­ing, here, yes­ter­day.

She is cog­nisant that at 71 per cent pen­e­tra­tion on the back of some 35 mil­lion pop­u­la­tion, there isn’t much room to grow within the TV ser­vice space.
