Astro revenue rises on strong customer base

KUALA LUMPUR: Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd reported a one per cent increase in its profit after tax and minority interest to RM624 million on the back of a two per cent rise in revenue to RM5.6 billion for the financial year ended January 31.

Its customer base grew by six per cent to 5.1 million, with paytelevis­ion (TV) users holding steady at 3.5 million. NJOI recorded a huge jump of 30 per cent to 1.7 million customers.

The company’s e-commerce initiative, Go Shop, saw 38 per cent revenue growth to RM261 million and sold 1.5 million products to 912,000 customers as of January.

“We are currently present in 71 per cent households, which equates to 21 million family members across 5.1 million homes, while our digital properties register close to 5.8 million visitors every month,” said its group chief executive officer Datuk Rohana Rozhan at a briefing, here, yesterday.

She is cognisant that at 71 per cent penetratio­n on the back of some 35 million population, there isn’t much room to grow within the TV service space.
