Azmin hopeful Pas will not sever ties with PKR

-

SEBERANG JAYA: PKR yesterday expressed hope that the Pas top leadership would decide against severing ties with PKR.

PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said the call for Pas to cut ties with PKR was only made by some Pas members.

“I am confident that the Pas leadership will decide in the spirit of the grand coalition,” he said at the launch of the Penang PKR Convention 2017 here yesterday.

He was commenting on the move by

Pas’ three wings —

Ulama,

Muslimat and Youth

— to approve a motion to cut ties with

PKR.

Azmin, last year, proposed a

“grand coalition” of opposition parties, including Pakatan Harapan and Pas, to go head-to-head against Barisan Nasional in the next general election.

Azmin also said PKR would wait for Pas’s highest decisionmaking body, the Syura Council, to decide the fate of Pas-PKR ties.

“We do not wish to speculate further,” said the Selangor menteri besar.

He also refused to comment on the status of Pas’s state executive council members in the Selangor government.

This follows PKR secretarygeneral Datuk Saifuddin Nasution’s recent statement, in which he called on all three Selangor state executive councillors from Pas to resign if the Islamic party cut ties with PKR.

Azmin said he would not respond to the recent attacks against him by Pas members, who called him “mulut celupar” (loose cannon) and “barua PKR” during Pas’ ongoing general assembly.

“It is okay. As leaders, we must not get too emotional.

“We must be extra patient.”
