Declare family’s wealth, Dr Mahathir urged

-

SHAH ALAM: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad must answer how much wealth his family owns and prove that it was not gained through corrupt practices.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said the former prime minister had never issued a denial that his children and family had amassed extraordinary fortune.

“The Malaysian people had been left wondering what’s the amount of fortune that Dr Mahathir and his family had amassed, and from where they acquired such wealth, said to be in tens of billions of ringgit.

“Since the former premier had never denied that his children and family have extraordinary wealth, I want him to declare the total amount.

“He had been quiet over this, and dodging the question.

“Is it because he is ashamed that the wealth was amassed from corrupt practices as alleged by opposition leaders Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Rafizi Ramli and the late Karpal Singh?

“Dr Mahathir also had never sued them over this allegation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Puad also called for the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission to launch a probe against Dr Mahathir should the latter refuse to answer and prove that his family’s wealth did not come from corruption.
