KLIA2 HITS 88M PAS­SEN­GER MILESTONE

Ter­mi­nal han­dled 30m do­mes­tic and 58m for­eign trav­ellers since May 2014

KUALA Lumpur In­ter­na­tional Air­port 2 (klia2) han­dled a to­tal of 88 mil­lion pas­sen­gers, com­pris­ing 30 mil­lion do­mes­tic and 58 mil­lion in­ter­na­tional trav­ellers, since open­ing its doors on May 2 2014.

The ter­mi­nal in Sepang, which can han­dle a to­tal of 45 mil­lion pas­sen­gers per an­num (mppa), has been sup­port­ing the traf­fic growth of low-cost car­ri­ers steadily over the last three years.

klia2 recorded 24 mil­lion pas­sen­ger traf­fic move­ments in its first year of oper­a­tions.

It posted a 15 per cent growth last year af­ter reg­is­ter­ing 27.6 mil­lion pas­sen­ger move­ments.

“The first quar­ter of this year has also shown strong pas­sen­ger traf­fic num­bers, with a to­tal of 7.1 mil­lion pas­sen­gers han­dled.

“Of those, 4.8 mil­lion were in­ter­na­tional trav­ellers, and the re­main­ing 2.3 mil­lion do­mes­tic trav­ellers,” said Malaysia Air­ports Hold­ings Bhd in a state­ment yes­ter­day.

To com­mem­o­rate its third an­niver­sary yes­ter­day, a sim­ple cer­e­mony was held at the ter­mi­nal.

Malaysia Air­ports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd act­ing gen­eral man­ager Arif Jaa­far pre­sented lim­ited edi­tion klia2 medal­lions to three se­lected pas­sen­gers.

Aina An­ina Ahmad Azraai, who ar­rived on an AirAsia flight, was the 30 mil­lionth do­mes­tic pas­sen­ger.

Felix Jane­malm of Swe­den, who flew in on AirAsia X flight, was the 58 mil­lionth in­ter­na­tional pas­sen­ger while Aus­tralian Natalie Parish, trav­el­ling via Jet­star, was the over­all 88 mil­lionth pas­sen­ger.

klia2 had also em­barked upon sev­eral im­prove­ment ini­tia­tives over the last three years, in­clud­ing the in­stal­la­tion of 25 ad­di­tional wal­ka­la­tors, bring­ing the to­tal num­ber of wal­ka­la­tors to 42 units.

It has also in­tro­duced a 24hour buggy ser­vice for greater con­ve­nience of its vis­i­tors.
