KLIA2 HITS 88M PASSENGER MILESTONE
Terminal handled 30m domestic and 58m foreign travellers since May 2014
KUALA Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) handled a total of 88 million passengers, comprising 30 million domestic and 58 million international travellers, since opening its doors on May 2 2014.
The terminal in Sepang, which can handle a total of 45 million passengers per annum (mppa), has been supporting the traffic growth of low-cost carriers steadily over the last three years.
klia2 recorded 24 million passenger traffic movements in its first year of operations.
It posted a 15 per cent growth last year after registering 27.6 million passenger movements.
“The first quarter of this year has also shown strong passenger traffic numbers, with a total of 7.1 million passengers handled.
“Of those, 4.8 million were international travellers, and the remaining 2.3 million domestic travellers,” said Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd in a statement yesterday.
To commemorate its third anniversary yesterday, a simple ceremony was held at the terminal.
Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd acting general manager Arif Jaafar presented limited edition klia2 medallions to three selected passengers.
Aina Anina Ahmad Azraai, who arrived on an AirAsia flight, was the 30 millionth domestic passenger.
Felix Janemalm of Sweden, who flew in on AirAsia X flight, was the 58 millionth international passenger while Australian Natalie Parish, travelling via Jetstar, was the overall 88 millionth passenger.
klia2 had also embarked upon several improvement initiatives over the last three years, including the installation of 25 additional walkalators, bringing the total number of walkalators to 42 units.
It has also introduced a 24hour buggy service for greater convenience of its visitors.
