TSG rid­ers to com­pete in China, Ja­pan

SIX rid­ers from the Tereng­ganu Cy­cling Team (TSG), called up to rep­re­sent Malaysia at the 29th Sea Games in Au­gust, will be un­der­go­ing sev­eral train­ing camps as well as par­tic­i­pate in events in China and Ja­pan this month.

The six rid­ers are broth­ers Mohd Zamri and Mohd Har­rif Salleh, Mohd Shahrul Mat Amin, Mo­hammed Adiq Hu­sainie Oth­man, Anuar Manan and Nur Amirul Fakhrud­din Marzuki.

TSG chief Nasirud­din Wan Idrus said, apart from train­ing, the rid­ers will also join the Tour of Ja­pan, start­ing on May 21.

“Nur Amirul will re­place Sai­ful Anuar Aziz, as he has been ap­pointed as TSG’s sports as­sis­tant direc­tor.

“As of now, the team will un­dergo train­ing in Ipoh and Cameron (High­lands) for three weeks be­fore they take part in the Tour of Ja­pan.”

Nasirud­din added that TSG coach Jeremy Hunt will over­see ac­tiv­i­ties by the rid­ers through­out their train­ing and the com­pe­ti­tions.

“Af­ter the Tour of Ja­pan and South Korea (start­ing on June 14), the rid­ers will also join the Tour of Qing­hai Lake in China, which is a 2.HC cat­e­gory race, and will be their fi­nal race.

“The tour of Qing­hai Lake is sched­uled to run be­tween July 16- 29 and af­ter which, all rid­ers are ex­pected to go through train­ing in and around Kuala Lumpur in or­der to fa­mil­iarise them­selves with the route that will be used dur­ing the Sea Games.

Ear­lier this year, TSG rid­ers un­der­went train­ing ses­sions and raced in a cou­ple of events in Mel­bourne, Aus­tralia, for a month be­fore com­pet­ing in Le Tour de Langkawi.

The Sea Games road cy­cling event is on Aug 21-24 with five gold medals up for grabs. Farah Azharie
