BOSSES FROM HELL SOUGHT
Restaurant owner, nephew allegedly assault workers in viral video
POLICE are looking for two men, including the nephew of the owner of a restaurant in Bandar Sungai Long, for allegedly abusing and assaulting three restaurant workers.
This follows a report from one of the workers, who claimed that the abuse had taken place several times.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showing the workers being physically abused, berated and humiliated by their employers and superiors had gone viral on social media.
The nearly seven minute-long video shows two diminutive young men and a petite woman being lined up and berated, shoved, slapped and punched by a co-worker at the behest of a large man, believed to be their employer.
The scene, which unfolded in the busy kitchen of the Bandar Sungai Long restaurant over the weekend, is difficult to stomach and has horrified and outraged Netizens.
None of the three abused staff — who appeared terrified throughout the ordeal — retaliated, but after the footage was leaked and went viral on the Internet, one of them found the courage to lodge a police report, early yesterday.
It is learnt that the victim sustained injuries from the abuse, and had to seek outpatient treatment at Kajang Hospital.
Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Othman Nayan said police had identified two of the culprits in the incident, and arrests would be made once their whereabouts were ascertained.
“Early investigations revealed that the incident took place on Saturday at 5.30pm at a restaurant in Bandar Sungai Long here.
“According to (the female victim), she was slapped by two men, who also intimidated her with words. One of the men is the employer’s nephew.”
Othman said the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
