21 nabbed in mass Bangsar brawl

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 21 people following a mass brawl in Bangsar, and are hot on the heels of a man who nearly rammed into two policemen in his bid to escape.

In the 3.30am brawl outside the Raj Banana Leaf restaurant in Jalan Telawi, a team of policemen stepped in, made arrests and seized weapons and two vehicles. Some 30 people were involved. However, one of the brawlers tried to escape by getting into his car and speeding off.

Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Sharul Othman Mansor said the man nearly rammed into two policemen.

He said police fired one shot at the vehicle, which was heading towards Jalan Ara.

He said the car was later found abandoned in front of a Maybank branch in Bangsar Baru.

Police found three motorcycle helmets, a metre-long rod, a knife, a baton and a bloodstained jacket in the car.

The car is registered to a man living in Sungai Pinang Dalam, Klang, Selangor. But, police have yet to determine if the driver was the registered owner.

Sharul said forensics collected four fingerprints in the car, adding that investigations were ongoing to determine the identity of the driver.

He said two Thai women and two Malaysian women were among the 21 people arrested.
