21 nabbed in mass Bangsar brawl

KUALA LUMPUR: Po­lice ar­rested 21 peo­ple fol­low­ing a mass brawl in Bangsar, and are hot on the heels of a man who nearly rammed into two po­lice­men in his bid to es­cape.

In the 3.30am brawl out­side the Raj Banana Leaf restau­rant in Jalan Telawi, a team of po­lice­men stepped in, made ar­rests and seized weapons and two ve­hi­cles. Some 30 peo­ple were in­volved. How­ever, one of the brawlers tried to es­cape by get­ting into his car and speed­ing off.

Brick­fields po­lice chief As­sis­tant Com­mis­sioner Sharul Oth­man Man­sor said the man nearly rammed into two po­lice­men.

He said po­lice fired one shot at the ve­hi­cle, which was head­ing to­wards Jalan Ara.

He said the car was later found aban­doned in front of a May­bank branch in Bangsar Baru.

Po­lice found three mo­tor­cy­cle hel­mets, a me­tre-long rod, a knife, a ba­ton and a blood­stained jacket in the car.

The car is reg­is­tered to a man liv­ing in Sun­gai Pi­nang Dalam, Klang, Se­lan­gor. But, po­lice have yet to de­ter­mine if the driver was the reg­is­tered owner.

Sharul said foren­sics col­lected four fin­ger­prints in the car, adding that in­ves­ti­ga­tions were on­go­ing to de­ter­mine the iden­tity of the driver.

He said two Thai women and two Malaysian women were among the 21 peo­ple ar­rested.
