‘Arrest man who attacked my daughter’

-

KUCHING: “Arrest the man who hurt my daughter. He has committed many sins and poses a danger to society.”

Those were the words of the father of an 8-year-old girl, who became the victim of a revenge attack against her family on Wednesday.

The girl’s little finger on her right hand was severed after she was attacked by her convict uncle at the family’s rented unit on the upper floor of a shophouse in Kota Padawan here.

The girl’s middle finger, on the same hand, was severely slashed in the 1.30pm incident.

Relating the ordeal, the man, who wished to remain anonymous, told the New Straits Times that the assailant was going after his wife before venting his anger on their daughter.

“According to my daughter, the suspect asked where her mother was when he charged into the house.

“He also told my daughter that he wanted to kill my wife. My daughter, who was shocked and traumatised, burst into tears.

“He later did the unthinkable when he attacked my daughter. How could he do such a thing to my little girl,” said the girl’s father, 39, at his house yesterday.

The man said he and his wife were working at a restaurant on the ground floor of a shophouse when the incident occurred.

The man said the victim was staying with her 19year-old brother, who was sleeping in his room during the attack.

“We did not see the man going up to our rented unit. We were alerted by a colleague, who saw my daughter crying with her hand dripping with blood, from the balcony of our unit,” he said.

The victim’s father, however, declined to comment on why the relative held a grudge against his wife but admitted that the suspect was also a former employee at the restaurant.

He said his daughter was responding well to treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital here.

“She has undergone reattachment surgery for her severed finger,” he said.

Padawan district police chief Superintendent Aidil Bolhassan said a manhunt has been launched for the 31-year-old suspect from Kota Samarahan.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim’s father had lodged a police report against the suspect for the latter’s suspected involvement in break-in activities,” he said.
