Road closures for New Straits Times C-Cycle challenge

-

PUNCAK ALAM: Road closures in stages will be implemented throughout the New Straits Times C-Cycle challenge on May 21 here.

Selangor Traffic police staff officer Assistant Superintendent Mohd Suwardi Mat Desa said the closures were to ensure smooth traffic for the safety of road users and cyclists.

“Officers will be there to guide cyclists, especially on the Fun Ride route and monitor their speed as most of the Fun Ride participants have a shorter route.

“It is crucial that they do not speed for the sake of their own safety. The main challenge of the event is the route as it involves main roads and it takes place on a weekend, so there might be an increase in traffic flow,” said Suwardi here yesterday.

He said the public were encouraged to cooperate, especially those living in the area.

The event is divided into two categories, 160km and 35km Fun Ride, and will be flagged off from Eco Grandeur (sales gallery) at Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari, Bandar Puncak Alam.

However, the NST C-Cycle Challenge 160km century ride route will have slight changes as advised by traffic police due to road safety reasons.

Some 550 cyclists in the 160km century ride will continue their journey to Jalan Hamzah Alas to Jalan Kuala Selangor, KlangJalan Bukit Cerakah Puncak Alam and back to Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari.

Organised by the New Straits Times, in partnership with Eco World Development Berhad and co-sponsored by Bank Rakyat and Volkswagen, the event has received overwhelming response from the public, including cyclists from abroad.
